We meet you
where you are
and lead you
where you want to go.

No two athletes are the same — so no two coaching plans should be either. We give you the diagnosis, the conversation, and the curriculum to become a smarter, sharper, more self-reliant athlete.

It's not a sales call. We talk about your training, your goals, and where you're stuck.

Coaching Since 2009 USAT Level II Swim Smooth Certified Coached Pros at Kona, Nice & ITU Gravel Worlds 60+ Five-Star Reviews

Why we exist

Most endurance coaching, frankly, sucks.

Alex's last coach told her to "Just swim more."

This kind of guidance just doesn't help at all. If you have a technique error blocking your development, swimming more will simply ingrain that bad habit. At Campfire we get to the root cause of what's holding you back — swimming, cycling, or running — which is why every one of our one-to-one clients gets a FREE video swim analysis, conducted in-person or remotely.

A gut-check

You'll feel right at home with us if…

  • 01
You want to know why your training is structured the way it is — not just what's on the calendar tomorrow.
  • 02
You've felt like a number in a system that gave you a "personalized" plan that wasn't really about you.
  • 03
You're a busy professional. "More volume" isn't the answer — your stress bucket is already full.
  • 04
    You've thought "I don't know what I don't know" — and you'd like that to stop.
  • 05
You're chasing something specific — a first 70.3, a sub-3 marathon, a Kona slot, a comeback — and the wrong approach costs you a season.
  • 06
You suspect a joyful athlete is a faster athlete. You'd like to be both.
  • 07
You're done with coaches who don't read your workout comments.
  • 08
You take it seriously. You'd like to hold it lightly, too.

If two or more of those landed, you're our kind of athlete. Keep reading.

How we coach

Four things we do differently.

01 / Method

We coach the athlete, not the algorithm.

We use real exercise physiology — Norwegian-style training, lactate, threshold work, block periodization — and we translate it for your body, your sport, your week. Your wattages and heart rates. Not generic zones.

02 / Outcome

We build athlete IQ on purpose.

After a season with us, you should be able to read your own data, adjust your own plan when life happens, and execute on race day when conditions go sideways. We build the athlete, not the dependency.

03 / Frame

We coach the whole athlete.

Triathlon is physical, intellectual, and emotional. We talk about race-day nerves, fueling fear, the imposter voice that whispers I'm not built for this, the work-life-training squeeze. None of it is "soft" — it's where most races are won and lost.

04 / Access

You get the head coach.

You don't get handed off to a junior. You get Chris, or we save you a spot until one opens on his roster. Keeping the group small allows him to give you the detail you deserve: if you leave a workout comment, you get a comment back. Every workout. Every athlete.

Real athletes. Real results.

Their words. Not ours.

Healthy skepticism is appropriate. We hope you've got some. Here's what athletes who've been with us for one, three, and ten-plus years actually say.

"I didn't even know I needed saving. After years of endurance, I wound up in a void of fatigue and monotony I helplessly numbed with podcasts and bibs to destination races. I wasn't thriving, and had honestly accepted it… they have a clear mission to make you a faster, HAPPIER athlete — and they will succeed."

Mark M.

Long-course triathlete

"Genuinely revolutionary. I'd been told to 'just swim more' — two months in, my pace hadn't moved. The in-depth feedback and video analysis at Campfire pinpointed exactly what I needed to fix."

Alex W.

2:35 → 1:51 per 100m · ~10 min off Olympic swim

"Being an average person and below-average athlete, they made me feel like my abilities were enough. Adam got me to my goal of 13:30 (13:28) at Ironman Copenhagen — entirely remotely."

Kimberly S.

IM Copenhagen · 13:28

"I took up triathlon as a 'senior' athlete. My coaches at Campfire worked with my busy schedule and gave me the plans to ultimately complete my first full Ironman — something I couldn't even imagine a couple of years ago."

David P.

2-year athlete · First IM finisher

"I've never felt as 'seen' by a coach as I was by you."

Hannah D.

Bend Camp athlete

"In about 15 minutes Chris helped me identify that I was overtraining and sending my body mixed signals. I'm not training for Kona. For the overthinkers out there: the gift of simplification."

Not sure which tier is right for you? Drop us a note — we'll help you figure it out.

The process

What happens after you say yes.

01

The Consult

Free. 45 minutes. A real conversation about where you are, where you want to go, whether we're a fit. No pitch.

02

The Diagnosis

We look at your last 3–6 months of training, your goals, your life. We name the actual limiters — not the obvious ones.

03

The Roadmap

You get a Personal Training Roadmap document — written, not just a TrainingPeaks plan. You'll know what we're targeting, why, and when.

04

The Coaching

We start. You text. We respond. You comment. We comment back. Every two weeks we get on the phone and look at the work together.

Meet your head coach

Coached by a coach who's still coaching.

Chris Bagg has coached athletes since 2009 — beginners and professionals alike, including pros at Kona, Nice, and the ITU Gravel World Championships. He raced professionally from 2006 to 2021. He's the host of The Infirmary podcast, where coaches and exercise physiologists come to talk about what's actually happening inside the workout.

He's not on a book tour. He's the person reading your comments.

  • USAT Level II Certified Triathlon Coach
  • Swim Smooth Certified Coach
  • CAPEC Movement Coach · FRC Certified Movement Specialist
  • 7 years teaching high school English (more relevant than it sounds)

Cross-tier non-negotiables

No matter which tier — these don't move.

  • 01
We will tell you the truth about your training — even when it's not what you want to hear.
  • 02
We will not sell you volume you don't need.
  • 03
If you leave a comment, you get a comment back.
  • 04
We will treat your race like it matters — because it does.
  • 05
We will coach you toward your own self-sufficiency, not toward dependency on us.

Common questions

The questions we get most.

I've been self-coached for years. Do I really need this?
Maybe not — and we'll tell you so on the consult if that's true. But if "I can figure it out myself" has run into a plateau, an injury, or just an aging body that doesn't respond like it used to, that's exactly when an outside set of trained eyes pays for itself in months.
I'm a busy professional. Will I have time?
That's a planning problem, not a coaching problem — and we're good at planning. The same 20-hour week that breaks you when you build it solo can become a 12-hour week that moves you forward when it's structured well. Less can be more.
I don't know if I'm "athletic enough" to deserve a coach.
One of our most beloved athletes calls herself "below-average" and she ran 13:28 at Ironman Copenhagen. We coach the athlete in front of us. There's no door check.
How is Soloist different from Scout?
Soloist is fully 1:1 — your plan, your call schedule, twice-monthly phone calls, unlimited email/text. Scout is a small cohort (3–6 athletes) on the same arc, with a weekly group call, group office hours, and a curriculum that runs alongside personalized scheduling. Scout costs less and is a beautiful way to grow with peers.
What's the typical commitment?
Our average time under contract with an athlete is measured in years, not months. You can start short — 12 or 26 weeks for Soloist, a quarter for Scout — and most athletes simply stay.
Can I switch tiers later?
Yes. Athletes regularly move from Scout to Soloist as goals get bigger, or from Soloist back to Scout when life gets busy. We design the ladder so you can move on it.
Do you coach single-sport (just running, just cycling)?
Yes. Soloist is available as single-sport at a discount.
I had a bad experience with a previous coach. How do I know this will be different?
That's the right question to ask. Book the consult. Twenty minutes in, you'll know whether we listen differently. If we don't, we'll say so — and point you somewhere better.

Your move

Your future self will thank you.

You don't have to figure it out alone. You don't have to settle for "just swim more." You don't have to keep being the athlete you've been.
