Training for triathlon is hard, but what’s even harder than that is PLANNING for triathlon training.
Up early, off to the pool, take a shower, eat, head to work, run at lunch, shower, eat, work, head home, help with dinner and kids, get on bike, go to bed at 11, and…get up at 5 and do it all over again.
But for five beautiful days from May 28 - June 1, you won’t have to do any of that.
And your summer fitness will thank you for it. Camps allow you to fit in more training per unit time, because we remove the stresses of work and life, allowing your body to soak up a BIG week of training.
So come to camp—you’ll be surprised at what your body will do afterwards.
Reserve your spot with a $600 deposit.
All rooms are single-occupancy, but if you have a partner that you share a bed with, you can book our “Couples Occupancy,” which subtracts one athlete’s portion of the housing costs. If you have any questions about this pricing or want to know more, please email us about it.
We get it! Things happen. That said, we need to make sure we have enough athletes to run camp. Here is our refund policy for all our camps:
120+ days out: full refund
90-120 days out: 70% refund
30-90 days out: 50% refund
Less than 30 days out: no refunds
An expedition is a truly detailed endeavor. Every single aspect of an expedition needs to be planned and executed as close to perfect as is possible, because failure is never far away — and nor is failure an option for these athlete.
If you are an intrepid individual, this is a “no-holds-barred” approach to coaching (albeit less violent). You get everything in the Soloist option, but also get:
One meet-up per quarter purchased where I travel to you (if travel is in the contiguous 48 of the U.S.A. I cover the flight, but any further afield and you cover the flight). Lodging is on you, either at your home or at a hotel. During your first visit we will run you through these tests:
Lactate test on bike, run, and swim ($897 value)
Sodium content test ($250 value)
Swim threshold test ($110 value)
Bike power profile testing ($330 value)
Swim video analysis ($250 value)
I can also come to your A Priority race as one of your visits, where I will be your boots-on-the-ground coach and race sherpa. Travel stipulations are the same as above, but you foot the bill for my lodging.
Weekly phone calls to make sure we have every detail covered, and more if you need them, any time of the week
Unlimited email and text
EVERY workout analyzed and responded to, regardless of if you commented on it or not
50% off our Flagship Bend Camp and one yearly Swim Camp
Chris’ flagship offering: a fully-personalized, high-touch, elite coaching program. You will get the consideration that a professional athlete gets, because your races are just as important as their races. What does this look like?
Twice-monthly 45-minute phone calls to talk through your questions, debrief races, go over key workouts, strategize about nutrition, stress, and recovery — anything and everything!
Unlimited email and text contact (slightly limited on weekends)
“If you leave a comment, get a comment” policy for workout comments on our training app
Fully flexible, customized training plan built to your life — if you need to change it, you simply drop me a text or an email or use the “Availability” feature in TrainingPeaks
A custom race plan for every event
Our tried-and-true “Personalized Training Roadmap” that outlines how we are going to get from where you are to where you want to go
Chris’ coaching curriculum, training you to become a Whole Athlete, who can approach racing and training obstacles from a variety of angles, deploying many different types of solutions
Regular, exclusive contact with a master coach who has experience teaching, counseling, and professional racing - a unique set of skills that will help you achieve the goals you want in the fastest amount of time possible.
The Soloist is available for multi-sport and single-sport coaching. Single-sport athletes get a small discount because the logistics are slightly similar, but you are still getting the expertise and mastery of my coaching, and what you’re paying for are results, not hours worked.
I understand this is a big commitment! If you’d like to have a free 45-minute conversation where I answer any questions you have about your training, so you can get a feel for what our calls would be like, you can book one of those free sessions here.
A lower-priced alternative to our flagship Soloist option. The Scout program opens every two months to a small (3-6 scouts) group coaching program. You can get a group together yourself with a target event in mind, or join a cohort that is targeting a 4-6 week peak that’s either 6 (sprint, Olympic), 9 (Olympic, 70.3), 12 (70.3, 140.6*), 18 (70.3, 140.6*), or 24 months (140.6*) from your start date.
A transformative experience over 6, 9, 12, 18, or 24 months where you will achieve the goals you set out in your plan, provided they are realistic to where you are as an athlete.
Weekly group coaching calls to go over assignments and curriculum Chris assigns to you. These calls are recorded in case you can’t make it, but it is expected that you keep up with and hand in your assignments by their due dates
Weekly video drop-in office hours on a first-come, first-served basis, but I will always make sure you get the coaching you need that week

The confidence knowing you are in the hands of a coach with two decades of experience coaching, teaching, and racing at the highest level of endurance sports
If you have…lost a step, as they say, through the ravages of age, and you want to get back into your favorite sport OR dip your toes into the water of endurance sports, The Explorer level is for you.
As with all our other tiers of coaching, you get a plan personalized to your life, your weekly schedule, and your goals for the year. I have helped:
An Ultimate Frisbee player become “the fittest guy on the team, and I can run for 45 minutes again!”
A backcountry skier lose weight, solve his back pain, play effectively with his kids, and PR a four-leg multisport event on the Mad River in New Hampshire.
An ACL-blown cyclist get back into shape and complete a 100-mile MTB race
A 65 year-old basketball aficionado be able to run with competitors 20 years his junior
It doesn’t really matter what sport you play—if it involves your heart, lungs, and musculoskeletal system I have the expertise to help you. Explorers get a very particular program that is aimed at restoring mobility, ending chronic injury, and improving sport specific fitness and skills.
It’s our lowest cost offering because there isn’t any phone contact, and you get your plan in 4-week blocks. I give you guidance on how to move workouts around as your life happens, but once the plan is written I don’t rewrite it. Since you do get month blocks at a time, we will iterate the plan writing as we go along, and you get the same deeply involved onboarding process that will teach me how to best write your plan the first time.
You still get unlimited email contact and workout comments via TrainingPeaks, so we still remain in close contact during your time around the Campfire.
If you’re hungering to get back in the game, the Explorer tier is for you.
Pricing is in line with all our coaching options, where we bill you every by the 12-week quarter, not by the month. This means your pay date can and will change during your time as a Scout!
Explorer pricing is $34/week if you pay in full for the year ($1564 - a $356 savings!) or $40/week if you pay by the quarter ($480/quarter)
Refunds are never provided, but remember that if you don’t achieve your goal you continue working with us for free until you do achieve your goal
Chris has done hundreds of video swim analyses, all based off of the Swim Smooth methodology developed by Paul Newsome. Our clients discover what limits their development in the water, making gains faster than simply slogging through thousands of yards. We meet you to capture the footage of you swimming and then take it away for analysis (alternatively, you can also capture your own footage and send it to us). We create a video that looks at every angle of your swim stroke, a list of drills to speak to your individual swimming needs, suggestions for improvement, and four workouts that you can do on your own. Want to see the final product? Check out one of our completed analyses here.
A Precision Hydration Sweat Test gives you an accurate, science-backed reading of your sodium concentration — the key electrolyte lost in sweat. It's non-invasive, takes about 45 minutes, and requires nothing more than sitting comfortably while the test runs.
Because this is largely genetically determined and stable throughout your adult life, most athletes only need to take it once. You walk away with a personalised hydration strategy — what to drink, how much, and when — built specifically around your physiology.
No blood draws. No treadmill sprints. No lab wait times. Just data that changes how you race.
Lactate testing equips you with the knowledge of which intensities you should train at for the best outcome in the shortest time. How?
The test gives us two lactate thresholds, the first lactate turn, sometimes called “the aerobic threshold,” (which is a bit of a misnomer), and the second lactate turn, sometimes called “the anaerobic threshold” (also a misnomer). Despite the lack of effective titling, the concepts remain: the first lactate turn gives us the power or heart rate at which you will best build endurance abilities, and the second lactate turn gives us your threshold power or heart rate, the second most important training range for endurance athletes.
The test is a 90-minute session, during which you will warmup and then perform a ramp test. Your coach will take a blood sample at each step of the ramp, continuing until you can…no longer continue due to the intensity. After the test you will get a individualized report detailing:
Your lactate profile (a graph)
Your first and second lactate turn points, in wattage or heart rate or both (both is better!)
Suggestions for your detailed training ranges to optimize your endurance training
You will need an indoor trainer, either smart or dumb. If you do not have one, you can tell us and we will bring one to your test.
The test involves taking blood samples with small lancets, test strips, and a lactate meter. The amount of blood is small, but your coach will be wearing gloves, and your fingers may be sore for a day or two.
Many training management apps, such as TrainingPeaks, do quite a bit of performance analysis, and they often do that analysis well. Sometimes, however, you and your coach may want to take a closer look at what you’re able to do on the bike, in order to make a plan so you can achieve even greater things. WKO5, which is a powerful piece of software, allows us to do exactly that.
WKO5 captures all of your training data and generates a power-duration curve of your historical performance. From 1” out to your longest ride, the software records your best efforts and then helps you build effective training prescriptions from your personal history. In a trained coach’s hands, WKO5 can provide helpful insights about an athlete’s current abilities and where they should focus for the best future improvement.
If you hire us for a cycling consultation using WKO5, you get:
An initial phone call to run through your current WKO5 results
A series of tests to perform to properly “feed the model”
A second phone call to analyze the results of the test and to prescribe training interventions for the most efficient improvement
A cycling consultation is good for any kind of endurance athlete, provided their sport of choice involves a bicycle. If you’re a triathlete, you’ll learn about ways to improve your distant-specific endurance. If you’re a gravel cyclist, we’ll talk about how to improve fatigue resistance. If you’re a road racer, mountain biker, or cyclocross rider, we’ll cross-reference your abilities with the demands of your chosen event and target the improvements required for success.
Our 2026 water bottles shift to a more…muted color palette than you might be used to from Campfire stuff, but we wanted to honor the sage color of our home in Bend, Oregon, along with the army green of the camping equipment of our youth.
Purist water bottles are the standard in the cycling world. BPA-free, easy to drink from, with a window that lets you know how much is actually left in there.
Rep your favorite coaching company with bottles you will NEVER want to put in the racing rotation, because losing them would be a huge sadness.
Affectionately known as the “Jumbo Gel”, we put 3 servings of our popular PF 30 Gel in a pouch with a resealable cap to create a more efficient way for you to hit your numbers. It’s the same mild-tasting gel, but delivered in a format that’s easier to carry and use.
30g of carbohydrate, with 100mg of caffeine for that added kick.
Ok, so it's not a Caramel Macchiato. (Try chugging a Caramel Macchiato in race conditions without ending up with third degree burns...)
But our caffeine gel tastes a darn sight better than those others you've tasted...
A practical and efficient way to get 30g of carbohydrate into your system fast. Our gels have a mild, neutral "Original" flavor to reduce flavour fatigue during longer efforts.
The texture is designed to reduce stickiness in the mouth and minimise the need to wash them down with fluid immediately.
Our energy chews have a high carb to weight ratio, making them a great choice when you need to travel light. Each packet contains 2 chews efficiently delivering 15g of carb each. The Mint & Lemon flavor chews are a refreshing option when you're working hard in hot conditions.
The Carb & Electrolyte Drink Mix delivers 60g of carb and 1,000mg of sodium per litre, making it the simplest way to get a decent amount of fuel and electrolytes in from your bottles.
It's especially useful for high intensity efforts lasting a few hours, where the delivery of a steady stream of rapidly digestible energy is typically a priority, but where it's still important to replace a proportion of your sweat losses.
If you want to hit higher carb numbers, without increasing your sodium intake, check out our Carb Only Drink Mix.
Developed with pro cycling's Lotto Dstny for the Tour de France, the Carb Only Drink Mix is a more flexible way to get energy on board from your bottles.
Tailor your carb intake to the work required, delivering up to 120g of carb per litre. Then add the right strength Precision Hydration Tablets, or swallow Electrolyte Capsules, to hit your sodium numbers.
Whoa! Big thanks to Campfire athlete Jenny G. in Bend for designing these stickers! Proclaim your love for your favorite coaching company in our new (and very shiny!) brand colors. These stickers are 2.5 inches across and will pop from any surface to which you stick them.
Give the gift of mastery! Campfire Gift Cards are available in several denominations, allowing your giftee to purchase some of our amazing soft goods, a swim analysis, a swim camp, a chunk of cash off our flagship Bend training camp, or even a month (or a year!) of coaching to see if they like it!
